Happy Hour: Killer B's BBQ + Bar

Santa Barbara's newest BBQ and sports bar was our pre-NCAA warm-up after work this past week.

Killer B's BBQ + Bar is a sublime stop on the walk home to the Cota parking lot for those of you who work downtown too.  Happy hour starts as early as 3pm.  If you get there early you might just score a coveted spot on the front patio and grab a happy hour draft before tip-off.

The Restaurant Guy joined us and this quad agrees that the big winner of the night was the BBQ Slider Trifecta.  The Trifecta includes sliders of: Pulled pork, BBQ Chicken + Brisket.  Half price at $4 bucks during happy hour.

All of Killer B's meats are smoked fresh daily in their 350 lbs. smoker.  And to boot they make ALL of their BBQ sauces from scratch, including the 4 table side: Honey Chip, Sweet, Habanero + House BBQ.

Happy Wine: Paso Robles

All of us fortunate Santa Barbara locals who live in the land of Pinot perfection find it difficult to venture out the Santa Ynez Valley when wine tasting.  However when duty calls for Wine Wife to do some tasting sometimes you find yourself having to venture  just a couple hours up the 101 to explore Santa Ynez's diamond in the rough sister  region, Paso Robles - California's fastest growing wine region.

Paso Robles, Spanish for the “Pass of Oaks” boasts over 200 wineries. Situated just 6 miles from the coast, the warm days and the cool nights provide the perfect conditions for some serious grape-growing.

Rolling Hills of Paso Robles Wine Country

Paso Robles is best known for its bold red wines which are characteristically rich and robust thanks to the long and consistent growing seasons of the Central Coast. While Cabernet Sauvignon has always been one of Paso's specialites, it’s the rich Rhone Valley blends that are making the headlines. The “Rhone Zone” has recently become Paso Robles' claim to fame.

Our Paso wine tasting extravaganza kicked off at Ecluse Winery, a small boutique winery, where the owners Steve and Pam Lock spoiled us with tastes from their reserve barrels.

Just down the road our next stop was Terry Hoage Winery, a 100% organically farmed estate. The rustic barn structure plus the firepit, BBQ, and pond make this winery the perfect pinic location.

Wood-Burning Pizza Oven at Opolo Vineyard
Linne Calodo provides a posh wine tasting experience in their new tasting room while Villa Creek offers a more down to earth encounter in their casual warehouse setting.

A stop at Opolo is a must where they barbecue the patio every weekend and serve flatbread pizzas out of their wood-burning pizza oven.

And if the wine scene isn't enough to get you to Paso Robles, did we mention the sunsets?
